On Monday morning, March 10th 2025, the time had come: the training ship Deutschland was maneuvered out of its berth with the support of our Fairplay tugs and towed safely into the Kaiserhafen. This action was necessary to prepare the ship for a comprehensive safety check.
Challenge and precision
The haulage required millimeter-precise coordination, especially when passing the bascule bridge. Thanks to our crew’s experience and good cooperation, the operation went smoothly.
Why into the dock?
The historic training ship, which has served as a maritime monument since 1995, requires regular maintenance. The outer shell is checked and necessary maintenance work is carried out in the dock.
A spectacle for shipping fans
Numerous onlookers and ship spotters followed the maneuver and captured the moment in pictures. Our mooring man Jürgen “Heppi” Heppner was particularly in demand – he has accompanied the training ship for many years and knows it inside out.
Smooth operation thanks to teamwork
The event was a complete success for the Fairplay Towage Group. The crew and tugs worked hand in hand to carry out the haul safely and efficiently. It now remains to be seen what work will be carried out in the dock and when the training ship can return to its original berth.
