On 7 May 2025, the German Shipping Day in Hamburg focused on one goal: inspiring young people to explore career paths in the maritime sector – through hands-on activities, insights, and creative moments.
How do we attract the next generation to maritime careers? The German Shipping Day on 7 May provided a great example. Under the theme “Course for the Future – Your Opportunity in the Maritime Sector”, students were invited to discover the diversity of jobs at sea and ashore.
The event featured a Discovery Tour through Hamburg’s HafenCity, engaging stations at the International Maritime Museum, and vivid presentations of inland shipping careers – organized by PRO Binnenschifffahrt, supported by FAIRPLAY TOWAGE Group B. Dettmer Reederei and Kölntourist Personenschifffahrt, on behalf of the German Association for Inland Navigation (BDB).
A special highlight: a Poetry Slam, creatively connecting maritime topics with young talent – authentic, entertaining and inspiring.
The message was clear: Career outreach must be hands-on, human, and passionate. A successful initiative for a future-ready maritime
