On this year’s Future Day, we welcomed 13 curious schoolchildren who were given an exciting insight into the maritime world. They were accompanied by instructor Hannes Baganz – normally on duty on the Nordic – who led them through the day together with Captain Lasse Mottlau.
On board the FAIRPLAY-91, the children were taken on a trip across the Elbe: they were able to marvel at container ships up close – and even take the wheel themselves! ⚓ Under guidance, they took the helm and maneuvered the tugboat confidently through the port.
Apprentice Jonah, Captain Mottlau and Hannes demonstrated the most important sailor’s knots on deck 🪢, which were tried out straight away. There was plenty to discover during a quiz on nautical knowledge and a tour of the entire tugboat – from the bridge to the engine room.
At the end, Captain Lasse proudly presented each child with a personal certificate showing that they had passed their knots and nautical skills test – and everyone was given pizza for refreshments 🍕
