FAIRPLAY tugs on TV

In February and March 2023, the port of Hamburg was transformed into an exciting film set: Exciting filming for the popular ZDF crime series “Helen Dorn” took place on the tugboat bridge and on board our FAIRPLAY-94 (then still BUGSIER-22), among others. She was quickly renamed “HANS 1” for the production.

The film crew was on board for a total of four days – with up to 30 people on board at the same time, including the director, camera, sound, actors and lighting technicians. While the tugboat was manned by Captain Hochel and his crew on three days of filming and was mostly moored to the pontoon, a special trip was scheduled for moving shots. Captain Liebenau and his crew took the helm. To create a particularly impressive backdrop, the FAIRPLAY-94 was moved to the westernmost berth so that the Övelgönne museum harbor could be seen in the background.

The scenes were shot both during the day and at night – from action-packed moments to quieter shots in and in front of the tugboat. The crew brought numerous props on board to make the atmosphere as authentic as possible. A special highlight: a little chat with Anna Loos, who plays the lead role in the series and is married to actor Jan Josef Liefers in real life.

According to our crew, the film crew was consistently professional and friendly – a collaboration that was great fun for everyone involved. The final action scene in particular, which was filmed on the FAIRPLAY-94, will never be forgotten.

You can now see the result for yourself: The new episode is now available in the ZDF media library. Be sure to check it out – it’s worth it!
